Sharjah Museums Department organizes workshops on Islamic art, heritage and marine life
As part of its ongoing efforts to enrich the knowledge and culture of the community, the Department of Interpretation and Education at Sharjah Museums Department (SMD) organized a number of family workshops focusing on Islamic art, heritage, and marine life, as part of their Family Amusement Day in May. Sharjah Archaeology Museum recently hosted a workshop titled "Make your Grandparents’ Food" where education specialists from the Archaeology Museum and Bait Al Naboodah Museum gave a presentation on people’s heritage focusing on the evolution of food, specifically bread and its methods of preparation. The participating families were educated on history of bread and its evolution throughout human history from the moment when man first came to know wheat, to the development of methods to grind and crush grains into flour reaching its known state of dough and ultimately bake his own bread. Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization in collaboration with Sharjah Art Museum also hosted a workshop titled "Preservation", inspired by the British artist Owen Jones’ Exhibition, The workshop focused one aspect of museum profession which is the art of restoration. The Family Amusement Day for May will conclude its activities with a special workshop to be held at Sharjah Aquarium titled "Behind the Scenes".
