HH Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, endorsed today the formation of Sharjah Architecture Triennial, a new initiative dedicated to the development of architecture in the Emirate of Sharjah under the chairmanship of Sheikh Khalid bin Sultan Al Qasimi. The Sharjah Architecture Triennial positions itself as the major architecture event in the MENA region. Through various initiatives including exhibitions, competitions, conferences and publications it will be a platform for debate and the dissemination of architecture and urban challenges, targeting the general public, the professionals, and the decision makers. Commenting on this new landmark development, Sheikh Khalid Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Sharjah Architecture Triennial Chairman, said: “I am delighted to announce the launch of Sharjah Architecture Triennial Programme, the first of its kind in the country and the entire region. The Programme will produce research in the field of architecture and urbanism, and reflect on how research and practice in architecture mutually shape one another. “ He aso underlined the important role of the Programme in supporting Sharjah’s ongoing development plan, which aims at providing an integrated and coherent spatial framework, and an increased accessibility into and throughout the city, improving the quality of life for its citizens. The event will raise awareness of the need to preserve the Emirate's built landmarks for their architectural value, and as holders of the UAE history. Addressing the challenges associated with architecture and urbanism in Sharjah City and the Emirate of Sharjah, Sharjah Architecture Triennial will bring together a large number of professionals, specialists, decision-makers, and business community leaders from inside and outside the country. It will seek partnership with public, academic, and professional institutions that are looking for a way forward in the urban and architecture sectors, focusing on rapidly developing cities. The Triennial will acknowledge excellence inside and outside the country and will support emerging UAE talents in the field. |
