The Sharjah Urban Planning Council (SUPC) has unveiled a revamped version of the Sharjah City Postal Code System’s free smartphone App after an in-depth review. The updated version of the App ensures more intuitive and precise user experience, including simpler intelligent search for destinations in the emirate through Google’s geographical information system (GIS). The latest version of the App is equipped with latest technologies that will make deliveries easier and more efficient. It will also more accurately map the Emirate of Sharjah by identifying locations using a five-digit code detailing – the emirate, the city, the area, and a two-number sector code. The revelation came during the recent GITEX Technology Week where Engineer Khalid Al Ali, Secretary-General of SUPC, conducted a presentation at Sharjah Government Platform on the mechanism and benefits of the innovative system, which was launched by the SUPC recently to help users precisely and smoothly identify destinations and locate all services available within reach, including business services and all kinds of service centres across the emirate. SUPC has recently started a full rollout of the smart system which assigns areas unique addresses, using signboards and smartphone App. It helps mail and packages get delivered more easily to businesses and residents at their locations. The system aims to raise the efficiency of postal services in the emirate, and it is linked to the GIS as per international standards. Commenting on the new update, Engineer Al Ali said, “The revamped version of the App helps our city run more smoothly, benefiting both individuals and businesses alike, by making it much easier to reach residential and commercial units more smoothly and in the shortest possible time, using Google’s GIS, including all of its innovative features.” “The system is one of the first significant projects launched by SUPC, to improve the level of services provided to the public, in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.” He added: “It falls within the emirate’s vision to enhance the competitive edge of Sharjah in the social and economic fronts and promote social welfare levels to be on par with the world’s most advanced cities. The system has been designed and is continually being updated to ensure precision and unique addresses for all residential and commercial units, including identifying best ways to reach destinations in the shortest possible time.” The Postal Code System involves a phased installation of signboards across the entire city, SUPC Secretary General explained, noting that the updated smartphone App has been designed to cater all segments of society and speed up postal distribution to the required locations across Sharjah. |
