Visitors to this year's Sharjah Aquarium Carnival discovered a world of underwater adventure, fun and wonder.

The annual event took children and families on a voyage of discovery, with exhibits, games, live shows and even the chance to get up close and personal with some of the fascinating sea creatures that live at the Sharjah Aquarium.

Live performances and stage shows featuring performers dressed as jellyfish and seahorses were held daily throughout the 10-day carnival, while Sharjah Aquarium's expert staff were on hand to explain the importance of protecting the delicate marine environment that lies off the coast of the UAE during a series of informative and interactive workshops.

Children and families flocked to the community-focused event to see some of the marine life that lives in the Arabian Gulf as well as different species from across the world and to learn about important conservation efforts.

The popular Touch Pool attraction returned this year, with visitors able to interact with different types of fish and other marine life. Other educational events on offer included the The Fisherman's House and Puppet Theatre.  

The aquarium's theatre hosted Arabic and English versions of the play of 'Alice in the Jellyfish Carnival', plus Carnival Shows, Jellyfish Show and competitions.  

Visitors also enjoyed a wide selection of delicious food provided by some of the UAE's favorite restaurants and food trucks, while young entrepreneurs from the UAE Youth Enterprises initiative sold a variety of items at an outdoor carnival market.

Rashed Al Shamsi, Curator of Sharjah Aquarium, said: "This year's Sharjah Aquarium Carnival was a great, fun-packed event that helped to spread the important message of environmental protection to children and their families. 

"The UAE is home to some incredible and beautiful marine life. Aquarium staff were on hand throughout the carnival to explain to visitors not only how these amazing creatures live underwater, but what we can do to protect them and their home for future generations to enjoy."
