Sharjah Date Festival set for May 1-4

A wide variety of dates will be on display at the Sharjah Date Festival next month. As many as 12 countries, including Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Palestine, Algeria, Oman and Tunisia, are taking part in the festival, held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of Sharjah Executive Council, from 1st-4th May at the Expo Centre Sharjah. The festival will be open to the public from 2 pm to 10 pm each day, offering many activities, including cooking shows with famous chefs, as well as competitions and workshops. Regarding the date festival, Mohamed Ahmed Amin, Acting Director-General of Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, SCCI, said, "The festival comes as part of SCCI’s efforts to support various economic sectors in the Emirate, including the date industry. Realising the importance of this industry, the Sharjah Chamber decided to organise a specialised date event, bringing together all concerned bodies, in cooperation with Expo Centre Sharjah, as well as organising and supporting bodies." |
