The Big Heart Foundation, TBHF, has launched a Zakat donation campaign, "Create a Sustainable Impact with Your Zakat", which will be utilised to help millions of Syrian children, Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh and Palestinians in Gaza through projects targetting the livelihood and education sectors. In Syria, the funds from the Zakat donations received by TBHF during the Holy Month of Ramadan will focus on building and rehabilitating schools there, apart from building community centres to support education and protection intervention in host countries such as Jordan and Lebanon. In the case of Rohingya refugees, the funds will go towards building learning centres to provide quality education to Rohingya children and a community centre to support vocational training and psychosocial interventions. The magnitude of the challenges facing Gaza continued to grow in 2018, and the funds from the Zakat donations will focus on building a community mental health centre to support Palestinian children, youth and women. Mariam Al Hammadi, Director of TBHF, said, "The Syrian, Palestinian and Rohingya refugees are living in extremely difficult circumstances and we have to stand by them and try our best to alleviate their suffering. Besides being our humanitarian duty, this reflects the foundation’s vision and goals, and is part of its efforts on a global scale to protect the people’s right to live a decent life." She added, "I urge the UAE to come forward and celebrate its spirit of benevolence by participating in our campaign." Individuals can donate via the foundation's website. |
