Sharjah Museums Department Announces Visiting Hours During Eid Al Fitr Holidays
(16 August 2012)

The Sharjah Museums Department (SMD) is all set to receive its visitors from the UAE and GCC countries during Eid Al Fitr holidays. SMD announced that Eid Al Fitr holidays for its administrative staff will be from the 29th of Ramadan until the 3rd of Shawwal (the month that follows Ramadan). Work will resume on the 4th of Shawwal.

SMD’s museums will be closed from 29th of Ramadan until 1st of Shawwal. The museums will open their doors to visitors on the second and third days of Eid Al Fitr, from 8am to 8pm, while Sharjah Aquarium will be open on the second, third and fourth days of Eid from 8am to 10pm.

The Sharjah Discovery Centre and Sharjah Science Museum will be ready to receive visitors on the 2nd and 3rd days of Eid from 4-8pm. Work will resume on Shawwal 4 as usual.

Commenting on Eid Al Fitr preparations, the SMD expressed its complete readiness at all its sites in Sharjah to receive a large number of visitors, especially those who come from the GCC countries and like to visit the museums, which feature valuable collections, a move that helps stimulate tourism in the Emirate.

Delegations and visitors will be able to benefit from advantages, events and activities offered by SMD’s museums during the Eid break. The Sharjah Science Museum and Sharjah Discovery Centre will be organizing a number of workshops that combine education and entertainment.

Speaking on Museums’ preparations, Manal Ataya, SMD Director General, said: "I would like to take this opportunity to extend our greetings and best wishes to our fellow muslims and UAE residents on the occasion of the advent of Eid Al Fitr, and we look forward to welcoming a large number of visitors to our many museums and hope they enjoy especially designed activities and events that combine fun and learning for all ages. ’

The other museums will, as usual, offer numerous options of touring and learning more about Islamic culture and arts, archeology, sciences, marine organisms and the deep rooted history of Sharjah with the help of the museum curator’s directors and staff who will provide all kinds of assistance and support so as to ensure that visitors will enjoy the festive atmosphere.

Five museums will offer electronic screens that enable visitors to express their opinions and give their suggestions and comments about their tour inside the museum, which would help the Department to assess these suggestions and incorporate them into museums’ development plans.

The SMD has amended the working hours of its administration as well as visiting hours so as to suite the public during the Eid holidays.
