Sharjah Aquarium Receives Gulf Special Needs Delegation

Sharjah Aquarium, a prominent natural landmark operating under the umbrella of the Sharjah Museums Department (SMD), has received a GCC delegation of 70 members representing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, and the UAE-who are here to attend the 4th gathering for special needs GCC citizens, taking place from 15-21 September.

The General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare invited the GCC delegates to attend the GCC gathering dedicated to individuals with special needs.

The guests toured the aquarium through water tunnels and over bridges, which are equipped with advanced technologies as per the latest international systems. They also got the chance to experience and learn about the marine environment of the UAE through its displays of a wide variety of more than 120 fish species, some rare and colorful, living in this beautifully constructed habitat.

Speaking on the occasion, Manal Aataya, Director General of Sharjah Museums Department, said, “We are pleased to accept the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare’s invitation of GCC guests to visit the aquarium as it falls in line with our commitment to reflecting the UAE’s keen interest in preserving marine life as part of Emirati society’s culture and heritage. We also strongly support all efforts aiming to fulfill the needs and aspirations of individuals with special needs.”

The guests thanked SMD for the warm welcome and superb hospitality they received during their tour of the aquarium. They also expressed their gratitude and appreciation to SMD for the efforts it expends to cater to people with special needs, a fact that was clearly manifested in the aquarium’s amenities and services designated for people special needs, such as parking, entrances for wheel chairs, elevators, and water tunnels and bridges. They wished the UAE and Sharjah further progress and prosperity.
