Sharjah Pushes Hospitality Sector To Boost Tourism Services
(4 November 2012)

Communication, Cooperation Key To Sector’s Success: Noman

HE Mohamed Ali Al Noman, Chairman of Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, has underscored the importance of direct communication and cooperation with all tourism sector partners and hotel industry in particular for the strategic role they play in boosting tourism and providing essential services for the tourists and visitors.

This came in his remarks during a meeting Al Noman and SCTDA Director General HE Khalid Jasim Al Midfa held with more than 30 representatives of one- and two-star hotels and hotel apartments in the emirate this week at the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Welcoming the hotel industry representatives to the meeting, Al Noman said that this is the first of a series of regular interactions that the Authority was planning to hold with the representatives of the hotel industry in the emirate in order to exchange ideas and address mutual concerns.

He stressed that the direct communication and continuous cooperation with all tourism partners in order to identify issues facing the hospitality sector and finding solutions are the basis and key to its success. This is part of the vision and is in accordance with the instructions of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qassimi, Member of Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, to boost the tourism sector in the emirate.

Al Noman lauded the keenness and cooperation of hotel industry in implementing the Classification and Licensing law, which was introduced five years ago in the emirate. He said that the Authority is constantly monitoring the trends and developments in international tourism industry and adding new categories and laws to keep pace with the change, which in turn will contribute to the hospitality sector and help improve services provided to the tourists.

The SCTDA Chairman called for increasing the presence of the emirate’s hotel industry in Sharjah’s participation in local and international events and exhibitions, especially the Arabian Travel Market held in Dubai every year in May.

During the meeting general issues and concerns like hotel classification and licensing mechanism, promotional activities of the emirate locally and internationally and the necessity of cooperation between the public and private sector for collective growth also came up for discussion.

Al Noman assured the participants that the Authority is sparing no efforts to invigorate the tourism sector in accordance with international standards and strengthen the bonds of cooperation and communication between public and private sectors. He wished and hoped that the success of these meetings would have a positive impact on the tourism and hospitality sector in the emirate.
