Eighty Diplomats Visit Sharjah Archaeology Museum
(9 March 2013)

The Sharjah Museums Department (SMD) recently received eighty diplomats who were invited to visit to the Sharjah Archaeology Museum. Organised in collaboration with the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the visit gave the diplomats and their spouses the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the museum’s collections and masterpieces, which narrate the archaeological history of Sharjah.

The guests, who included heads and members of Gulf, Arab, and foreign diplomatic missions to the UAE, were received by Nasir Al Darmaki, Curator of the Sharjah Archaeology Museum, and a number of SMD officials and administrators, who provided them with a tour of the museum, during which the guides highlighted the most notable collections on display as well as their historical value and significance to the UAE. The group viewed a 2000 year-old horse skeleton uncovered with its full golden bridle, one of many archaeological collections found in Mleiha, a unique finding with no other known examples like it in the region.

Each artifact in the Sharjah Archaeology Museum tells a story that contributes to the shared heritage of humanity. In its four galleries, objects bring to life stories of Sharjah’s history from as early as the stone age to shortly before the coming of Islam.

The visiting diplomats and their wives were impressed with the major development seen by the UAE, including Sharjah, in all fields, a fact that recognises the country’s vital and civilized position regionally and internationally.

They also commended the great support enjoyed by Sharjah’s museums that has been clearly manifested in the state-of-the art facilities and exquisite artefacts and historical collections, making it a favourite destination for students, researchers and tourists.
