Sharjah is attracting considerable attention at the GIBTM 2013 (Gulf Incentive, Business Travel and Meetings Exhibition)after the business tourism summit opened in Abu Dhabitoday (Monday, March 25). HE Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Chairman, Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, who inaugurated the exhibition, and a number of UAE’s dignitaries, leaders and representatives of major participating companies and business tourism players from across the region visited the Sharjah pavilion on the opening day of the exhibition that is being held at ADNEC in the capital from March 25 to 27.
Speaking on the occasion, HE Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Director General, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority said that the Authority is keen to projecttheemirate’s world-class business tourism opportunities and infrastructureandboost its presence at the Abu Dhabi exhibition, which is one of the leading international platforms of the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) sector.
Al Midfasaid the GIBTM Abu Dhabi exhibition opens new avenues and opportunities of interaction between investors and major tourism industry players and is dedicated to the development of the MICE industry in the Gulf and Middle East region.
The Sharjah pavilion at the exhibition has been the venue of a number of meetings with a number of participants and exhibitors, travel agencies, tourism authorities and the media and expects another successful participation this yearas in thepastseven years.
Pointingout that tourism conferences and exhibitions haveemerged as an importantplatform tomarket the enormous tourism potential of the emirate before the industry, Al Midfa said Sharjah is working to develop more convention and exhibition centers besides the existing facilities such as the Sharjah Expo Center, Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and a number of luxury hotels that also boast of well-equipped convention centres and halls for all occasions. The recently opened Al Jawahar Reception and Convention Center close to the Sharjah International Airport is a welcome addition. The new facility is spread over 5,500 square meters and can accommodate up to 3,000 guests. Divided into three halls, it can accommodate 700 to 1500 guests each
Sharjah is taking part in the Abu Dhabi exhibitionfor the seventh consecutive year showcasing the best of its business tourism infrastructure and diversity of its tourist landscape at its attractive pavilion. Information and promotional literature in several international languages are being offered at the stand.
The GIBTM Abu Dhabi specialized exhibition, which is in its seventh year, attracts more than 300 exhibitors and 2,400 participantsand tourism industry highfliers and professionals from 36 countries.
