The Wife of the Crown Prince & Deputy Ruler of Sharjah His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qassimi, Shiekha Azza Bint Saud AL Qassimi attended the Annual Spring Swimming Competition 2013 at Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC) which was organized by the Sports Department at the Club’s Olympic Pool. The competition was attended by a great number of participants who represented various schools and entities as well as individuals belonging to team SLC.
The competition comes as part of the set annual events & activities which aims at hosting various sporting events during holidays, in order to encourage individuals to practice and adopt different kinds of hobbies & activities, and refine all given skills.
The competition began by welcoming around 50 participants, who represented multiple clubs and schools such as Sharjah Wanderes Sports Club, Victoria International School, Apple International School and Sharjah Ladies Club swimming team. Competitors were able to take part in various categories of the event such as 50 Meters Butterfly, 50 Meters Breaststroke, 50 Meters Backstroke, 50 Meters Freestyle and 100 Meters Individual Medley. Participation for girls ranged between the age group of 7 to 16 years old, while boys between 6 to 9 years old were able to compete in the completion. The competitors were able to display amazing swimming skills which left the audience amazed of their performance and showcased the children’s ability in performing in front of an audience and keeping high spirits.
“The Sports Department at the club is always keen in holding competitions in various sports, aiming to encourage participants in practicing sports and develop their skills. We embrace swimming competitions seasonally with the participation of other teams and clubs which gives them the chance to meet other teams and exchange expertise. Thankfully, the competition received an overwhelming response in the previous years, which emphasizes the importance of continuing to embrace more of these tournaments, and encouraging individuals to practice swimming in the club’s facilities that are equipped with international standards”, said Hala Al Far, Swimming Administrator at SLC.
At the end medals were given to first three winners in given categories and gifts brought by Speedo, while certificates were distributed among all participants. Sheikh Salem Bin Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qassimi won four gold medals in Butterfly, Backstroke, Freestyle, and Individual Medley, as well as a silver medal in breaststroke category.
