Sharjah Baby Friendly Emirate Campaign in collaboration with the Maternal and Child Health Center, Sharjah recently conducted a workshop for healthcare staff from MOH hospitals and health centers.
The workshop was designed to empower hospitals and health centers with the latest scientific findings and recommendations, which they can then use to enhance public awareness regarding breastfeeding.
The material covered areas such as the most effective breastfeeding methods, and its benefits to both mother and child. The workshop also discussed and examined the progress of Sharjah hospitals and health centers in terms of breastfeeding health education.
Dr. Hessa Khalfan Al Ghazal, Director of the Executive Committee of Sharjah Baby Friendly Emirate Campaign further elaborated: “This latest workshop seeks to further our efforts in making Sharjah a baby-friendly emirate while following international standards. Educating hospitals and health centers on the scientific benefits of breastfeeding is vital as they are like medical ambassadors who regularly interact with the public.
Dr. Evelyne Ruof, Head of Lactation Department at the Maternal and Child Health Center, Sharjah adds, “This workshop had one primary goal: to enhance the knowledge of mothers, making Sharjah a society that protects and supports mothers and babies. We are proud to collaborate with SBFC in making this goal a success, as breastfeeding should be seen as mutually beneficial to mothers, babies and the society of Sharjah, in terms of health as well as mother-child bonding.”
Various representatives from Sharjah hospitals and health centers were in attendance, rousing a discussion on the most effective ways to promote breastfeeding in Sharjah public areas.
