Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC) held a lecture titled “Children Harassment – Before & after prevention methods” in association with Sharjah Police Headquarters. The lecture was presented by First Lieutenant Layla Mohammed Kazim from the Forensic Science Biology Section, which included valuable information on various types of harassment including children and how to prevent and cure them. The lecture was attended by a large number of SLC’s staff.
This lecture comes within the club’s events which aim to educate and raise awareness in their employees and introduce them to the most important cases and terminologies of this time. This emphasizes the club’s attention in its employees in various ways, where it includes activities that works on educating them continuously through these lectures, presented by experts and specialists.
First, First Lieutenant Layla welcomed the attending ladies and began with introducing the definition of sexual harassment, and how any unwelcomed gestures may start from simple acts can evolve to severe verbal violations and lead to sexual harassments. Kazim also introduced the categories of harassers from strangers, family members, and also friends. In addition to the factors may lead to such abnormal behaviors, and how family role is very important in preventing such behavior and the importance in not encouraging such acts if occurred in cases such as children imitating others.
First Lieutenant Kazim also mentioned the targeted groups which is not only based on women, but also men and children. And that harassment includes verbal, stares, threats, as well as touching, and seducing which finally leads to rape in some cases. Therefore, various consequences including psychologically and physically may occur in the case of bruises, sexual transmitted diseases and the feel of fear and anxiety which may leads to suicide in severe cases.
“We constantly work in cooperating with various entities and official organizations to hold such lectures and seminars for the club’s employees that work directly in introducing various topics with high importance and how to behave in such situations. As numerous cases of sexual harassments especially in children existing in our time, we are obligated to raise the awareness and face the problem. Today’s lecture worked on introducing the various ways of sexual harassment and assured that in case of occurrence a direct notification should be taken. We wish safety for all and that we have sent across this important message in a positive way”, said Ameera Al Jariri, Events & Public Relation Manager.
Moreover, the lecture included real life harassment cases, where Kazim assured that prevention and curing differs with raising the awareness in individuals, strengthen religious faith and to scream and run in any harassment behavior.
In conclusion, First Lieutenant Layla thanked the attending ladies and advised them of informing officials directly in some cases and reserving any piece of cloths and not washing them, to give the forensic team an easy chance to solve the issue.
