Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC) celebrated “Earth Day” through hosting a number of activities which reflected the club’s initiatives in raising awareness among individuals in the importance of preserving the environment and reducing pollution.
First, children from the Basateen Preschool Center were able to celebrate this global event through planting trees at the center, where Basateen is always keen in educating children in the important global issues and raising awareness among them. Such as environmental issues that develops the sense of awareness among the young.
On the other hand, various activities were held at the club for its staff, using recycled materials to create products for different purposes where the staff also planted plants in the beach terrace area at SLC. Earth day activities ended through hosting workshops for ladies and children, titled “Put your creativity to work & help save the environment" which worked on teaching participants on how to use recycled items to be created for different purposes. The workshop was conducted and supervised under a recycling expert, where participants were also able to bring along with them recyclable items such as, plastic cans, cardboard papers which were used for useful arts & crafts tools.
"These initiatives work on raising awareness among individuals in the importance of preserving the environment and recycling. As this is not a strange act from the club to participate in such global events and raising the awareness in environmental issues, where year after year we are taking part in various global events such as "Earth Hour" and for the second year in a row taking part in the "Earth day" event. Through these workshops we are taking advantage of this opportunity to educate individuals about the importance of preserving the environment and the risks of pollution and the importance of reducing it. Moreover, as being one of the leading clubs in serving women and children, we are obliged to convey important messages through hosting workshops and activities for our members. These workshops work on educating and celebrating this occasion at the same time. We hope to continue in embracing and participating in more of these environmental initiatives for their great positive impact on individuals and the society", said Ameera Al Jariri, Events & Public relation Manager at SLC.
Moreover, a contest was held for the best recycled model and voted by the jury team, where winners were given valuable prizes and certificates for their environmental creativity, brought by the club.
