Sharjah’s ATM Showcase Attracts Interest Of Decision Makers, Media

Sharjah, the Home of Culture, is once again present in all its splendour at the Arabian Travel Market 2013, underway from May 6 to 9 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, and has been attracting considerable interest and attention with several regional and global decision makers in addition to representatives of major tourist destinations, exhibitors and local and international media visiting the Sharjah pavilion.

Amongst the dignitaries who called on HE Mohamed Ali Al Noman, Chairman, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, and other senior officials at the ATM included HE Sheikh Abdulaziz Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman, Ajman Tourism Development Authority, HE Muhammad Khamis Al Muhairi, Director General, National Council for Tourism and Antiquities, Sri Lanka’s Deputy Minister of Economic Development, HE Muhammad Hizbullah, Consul General Sri Lanka HE M M Abdul Raheem and HE Dato’ Azizaan Nordin, Deputy Director General, Malaysia Tourism.

In his talks with the visiting dignitaries, Al Noman underscored the importance of cooperation between global tourism destinations and exchange of ideas and experiences saying the Dubai travel and tourism exhibition is an ideal platform for such exchanges.

"Exhibitions like these open a window on the global tourism industry helping the participants to keep abreast of the new developments, trends and strategies in the sector around the world," stressed Al Noman.

He expressed his pleasure that the Authority’s showcasing of Sharjah at ATM this year has been very successful with the emirate’s special brand of tourism and marketing attracting the interest and attention of the regional and global industry players on the first two days. This is besides the international and regional trade media’s interest in the recent growth and major investments and developments in Sharjah’s tourism sector.

Al Noman emphasised that the presence at global platforms like the ATM is crucial to promoting Sharjah’s distinct tourism experience and strengthening its position in the regional and global markets.

"This directly and significantly contributes to the tourism sector and helps in attracting more tourists and investments in the tourism infrastructure and hotel industry," he pointed out stressing Sharjah offers a most promising and ideal investment environment in the region.

Al Noman lauded the efforts by various destinations and government and private sector players to improve the tourism sector and services in the emirate to ensure the quality of the Sharjah’s tourism product in accordance with the highest international standards and norms.

"These earnest efforts have succeeded in earning a special place on the world tourism map and have helped in the continuous growth of the tourism sector and the number of tourists to the emirate, registering an 11% increase during Year 2012," said Al Noman.

The SCTDA Chairman urged all government agencies and private sector players in the emirate to join hands and exert concerted efforts for even better results in the future.

Headed by the SCTDA, the strong Sharjah delegation to the ATM Dubai includes Shurooq (Sharjah Investment and Development Authority), Sharjah Airport Authority, Air Arabia, Sharjah Media Centre, Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA), Sharjah Museums Department, Sharjah National Hotels, Hotel Radisson Blu, Al Bustan Group of Hotels, Al Hamrah Group of Hotels, Golden Tulip Sharjah, Hilton Hotel Sharjah, Al Khalidiah Tourism and Cozmo Travels.

The elegant 558-square meters Sharjah pavilion at the ATM celebrates the emirate in all its diversity. Promotional literature and various publications and guide books on the emirate in both Arabic and English are available at the stand. They offer a peek into various elements and facets of Sharjah’s tourism experience, including family tourism, cultural and heritage tourism, business tourism, ecotourism besides the numerous tourist attractions and events and festivals that have brought rich laurels and titles to the emirate in recent years, most notably, the Capital of Arab tourism for 2015 and Cultural Capital of the Islamic World for 2014.
