(8 May 2013)

Sargent ranked among the 20 most-cited economists in the world

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qassimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah and President of American University of Sharjah (AUS), the university will hold a lecture by Dr. Thomas J. Sargent, Nobel Laureate in Economics on Sunday, May 12, 2013. The lecture entitled “Euro Crisis: Sources and Its Global Implications,” is part of the new Nobel Laureate Lecture Series at AUS.

Ranked among the 20 most-cited economists in the world, Dr. Sargent is a leader of the "rational expectations revolution" in economic thought and specializes in macroeconomics, monetary economics, and econometrics. Together with Dr. Christopher A. Sims of Princeton, he won the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for research concerning the role of rational expectations in the development of macroeconomic policy. Dr. Sargent is Professor of Economics at New York University and a Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford, California.

His lecture is a part of a visit to AUS, during which Dr. Sargent will also have the opportunity to meet with students and faculty within the School of Business and Management and with others across the AUS community.

The AUS Laureate Lecture Series is designed to bring the best intellectual innovators to campus to share their findings on the forefront of research, and thereby designate AUS as a center for the dissemination of the ideas and models that push the scientific enterprise throughout the world. Under the aegis of the School of Business and Management (SBM) in cooperation with the Office of Development and Alumni Affairs, the series which is spearheaded by Interim Dean of SBM, Dr. Hashem Dezhbakhsh, will bring winners of the Nobel Prize to lecture at AUS and thereby provide an opportunity for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of AUS to meet and hear first-hand some of the finest and most influential thinkers of our age.
