The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority is looking forward to setting put up a strong show at the Arabian Travel Market, the region’s most prestigious travel and tourism networking summit that is being held from May 6 to 9 in Dubai for the 16th year, with the largest contingent of the emirate’s tourism industry so far.
“The ATM offers a great opportunity to highlight the significant strides Sharjah has taken on the tourism sector in the past few months and years from a global platform and perspective,” said SCTDA Chairman HE Mohamed Ali Al Noman who will once again be leading the emirate’s delegation to the Dubai exhibition.
He said that in the last few months and especially during the past year Sharjah has witnessed the initiation of a number of major tourism projects in the emirate that are set to transform the profile of the sector in the emirate. “From ambitious projects like Chedi Khorfakkan Luxury Resort and Spa to the massive Kalba ecotourism initiative, both on the East Coast of the emirate, and several new hotel projects that are either ready to open for business or getting ready to do so soon, Sharjah has seen massive investments in the tourism and hospitality sector in the past couple of years,” he emphasised.
“If the UAE is the most happening tourism market in the region, ATM is its biggest platform. Occasions like these help our strategy to promote our distinct tourism sector, its spectacular tourist attractions and numerous upcoming tourism projects and services before an international audience and a diverse, global market that is growing by leaps and bounds,“ he added.
As part of Sharjah’s strategy to tap new and emerging tourism markets around the world, the Authority has been showcasing the emirate at international exhibitions and events like the ITB Berlin, MITT Moscow and WTM London. “Our persistent efforts are paying off with the emirate attracting more and more international travellers from around the world. Last year the emirate received 1.73 million foreign tourists registering an 11 per cent increase, in comparison to 2011” said Al Noman.
The ATM Dubai brings together decision makers, specialists and professionals in the travel and tourism industry from around the world helping all participants exchange experiences, expertise and ideas. It also presents great opportunities for investments and business. “The SCTDA has always passionately been involved in the ATM, exploiting the immense potential of the exhibition and platform," said Al Noman.
