Sharjah Wraps Up An Eventful Exhibition In Dubai
(11 May 2013)

Noman: Huge strides of growth in Sharjah’s tourism sector

The 20th edition of the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai witnessed a record number of visitors at the elegant pavilion showcasing the best of Sharjah as the emirate wrapped up an eventful exhibition that saw a flurry of high profile meetings, fructifying of business accords and sharing of ideas and experiences with regional and international players of the industry.

The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority Chairman HE Mohamed Ali Al Noman, who headed the Sharjah delegation to the 4-day exhibition in Dubai that concluded on Thursday, described the emirate’s participation for the 16th consecutive year in the ATM exhibition as “highly successful and rewarding in all respects.”

Al Noman said that the SCTDA and all members of the emirate’s delegation made the most of the opportunity provided by the Dubai exhibition to bring out the beauty, diversity and uniqueness of Sharjah’s tourism experience which has earned itself a special place in the crowded regional and global tourism market.

The SCTDA Chairman said: “This year had been truly special for us. This was Sharjah’s 16th year of participation in this most important exhibition in the region and we had the strongest contingent so far with the leading government and private sector actors of the emirate being represented in significant strength. The emirate’s pavilion received record number of high-profile visitors--from governments in the region and around the world and movers and shakers of the industry—as well as regular delegates and members of public showing interest in the emirate’s distinct tourism experience.”

He said that with investments pouring into Sharjah’s tourism and hospitality sectors and several new projects coming up across the emirate, the tourism landscape is set to undergo profound changes for the better, creating greater economic opportunities at home and better facilities and services for international visitors.

In this connection he referred to the Dh500 million massive development project on the Sir Bu Nair island announced by Shurooq at the ATM. The project at the Unesco World Heritage site island will include a 100-room five-star hotel, 70 serviced apartments and villas and other facilities.

Al Noman called for greater public-private partnership urging all stake holders in the emirate to join hands to make the most of these historic opportunities and possibilities in the tourism sector that will directly contribute to the emirate’s economy.

The SCTDA Chairman said that the emirate’s tourism strategy is inspired by the Sharjah leadership’s vision of balanced growth and reflects the colourful diversity of the emirate and blend of tradition and modernity in its tourism landscape. “We have a vision that is commensurate with the diversity of our beautiful emirate and its rich cultural and tourism landscape,” Al Noman emphasised.

The Sharjah delegation to the ATM exhibition, held from May 6 to 9 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, included Shurooq (Sharjah Investment and Development Authority), Sharjah Airport Authority, Air Arabia, Sharjah Media Centre, Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA), Sharjah Museums Department, Sharjah National Hotels, Hotel Radisson Blu, Al Bustan Group of Hotels, Al Hamrah Group of Hotels, Golden Tulip Sharjah, Hilton Hotel Sharjah, Al Khalidiah Tourism and Cozmo Travels.
