The Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) is participating in the sixth edition of BookExpo America, the leading book industry event in North America, which is taking place from the 30th of May to the 1st of June in New York City with the participation of 80 countries and more than 939 local and international publishing houses from across the globe.
The SIBF delegation is headed by Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, SIBF Director, and includes Salim Omar Salim, Head of Sales & Marketing at SIBF. SIBF’s participation in America’s major cultural extravaganza comes as part of its preparations for the upcoming 32nd edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair, which is scheduled to take place from 6-16 November 2013 at Expo Centre Sharjah.
Speaking on the occasion, Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, Director of the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF), said, “We are always keen to take part in global cultural events in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, who spares no effort to support the Emirate’s cultural and intellectual development.”
“On the sidelines of our participation at the Book Expo America, SIBF will organise an open seminar to invite publishers, authors and other book industry professionals, to attend the SIBF Professional Programme,” Al Ameri said.
Al Ameri added that “the SIBF’s offering as well as the facilities that it will provide to publishers will also be outlined during the seminar, and we expect that the SIBF Professional Programme will be a highly successful event.”
SIBF will hold a series of meetings with several cultural organisations, as well as publishers, with the aim of striking future agreements and collaborative deals, and also inviting them to participate in SIBF 2013. They will also discuss the possible means to support mutual interests in the field of publishing and book industry, as well as matters related to organising cultural exhibitions, especially the Sharjah International Book Fair.
The SIBF Professional Programme feature a series of discussion sessions, lectures, workshops and symposiums, among other activities related to the publishing and book industry, and enable authors and publishing houses to exchange ideas and experiences, and benefit from the expertise of an elite group of professionals and specialists. A number of seminars for Arab publishers is also organised during the programme, in addition to conferences about the translation rights industry, with the aim of facilitating the signing of agreements between Arab and foreign publishers.
