Sharjah Ladies Club Celebrates Mid of Sha’baan "Hag el Leila"
(24 June 2013)

Sharjah Ladies Club celebrated the Mid of Sha’baan “Hag el Leila” event where it witnessed a large number of attendees including mothers and children who enjoyed the multiple activities throughout the event.

This event comes under the club’s plans and strategies to educate children the definition of UAE’s customs and traditions. Especially after the club is being one of the leading institutes in Sharjah, collaborating in the Mid of Sha’baan celebrations in a number of previous years, aiming in educating the newer generations of the cultural celebrations, and maintaining UAE’s traditions and heritage.

First, Nouria Mohammed, Club Registration Department Manager at SLC, welcomed the guests and gave way to participants of the General Department of Children and Girls Centers - who performed traditional dances inspired by heritage from the past. These performances won the audience’s admiration. The attendees then enjoyed the heritage exhibition and bazaar which included various workshops of arts and crafts. On the other hand, children took memorial photographs with the traditional cartoon characters and enjoyed other activities like face-painting, henna design, hair styling and their share of sweets & candies.

From her part, Head of Corporate Communication, Badria Al Ali affirmed that the Club is keen on holding the “Mid of Sha’baan - Hag el Leila” celebrations annually in the Kunooz ballroom of the Club, which is a traditional celebration held to revive heritage from the past and introduce the new generation to it.

“Such events work on educating the children and introducing them to the traditions of the past as well as instilling the principles of heritage in their hearts. The Club has always been renowned for pursuing the livening-up of tradition and ingraining in it in children. Our celebrations today brought joy to their hearts in addition to celebrating the traditional act of this event, which is held everywhere in the Gulf region throughout different periods”, Said Ameera Al Jariri, Events & PR Manager.

Al Jariri also added, “Today’s event witnessed a large turnout of mothers and children which is what we strive for in our ongoing educational and leisurely events all the same. Our event succeeded at achieving its goal in teaching the children the traditional celebrations of our heritage and the audience certainly enjoyed the various activities that yielded good and beneficial times for everyone. We hope to carry out more of these positive-impact functions”.

The audience then enjoyed the vast array of games and traditional competitions which had bolstered their heritage-related general knowledge of the UAE. At the end, gifts were distributed amongst children and mothers, as well as the winners of competitions.
