(28 August 2013)

Spirit (Malayalam), Thuppaki (Tamil), Gabbar Singh (Telugu) and Addhuri (Kannada) are leading the nominations at SIIMA in most of the popular categories, which are slated to take place at the Expo Centre Sharjah, Sharjah - UAE, on 12 – 13 September 2013.

The year 2012 was ruled by interesting film concepts, outstanding performances, exhilarating productions and out-of-the-box stories. With movies like Eega, Thuppaki and Gabbar Singh not just making a mark nationally but also setting the cash registers ringing internationally, 2012 was a benchmark year for the South Indian Film Industry.

SIIMA - where nominations are chosen by an elite panel and winners are chosen by an online voting system - is a first of its kind award ceremony that realized last year the need to take the industry beyond Indian shores and has continued to do so this year.

Dinesh K. Uggina,Local Event Producer, Anjanstar Events, said: “SIIMA has distinguished itself by being the only international award festival that focuses solely on the South Indian Film Industry and that has taken on the overwhelming and extensive task of short listing films of all South Indian languages – Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu& Kannada. While other awards acknowledge the South Indian cinema by presenting awards only in some categories, SIIMA will be giving away awards in 19 different categories in each of the four languages and will be attended by stalwarts from all the four industries making it a unique star-studded affair.”

In the Telugu section, Gabbar Singh is leading by 13 nominations, whereas Thuppaki is leading in the Tamil section with 10 nominations, and Addhuri and Spirit are each leading by 9 nominations in the Kannada and Malayalam languages respectively.
