Bee’ah Cements Position As Industry Leader At Green Middle East Awards
(2 November 2013)

Bee’ah cemented its position as an industry leader at the Green Middle East Awards, beating off strong competition to win two awards on the final day of the region’s premier exhibition for the environment industry, Green Middle East Exhibition and Forum.

The Sharjah- based company was bestowed with the Best Solid Waste Management Company of The Year Award during a ceremony hosted by the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water. Bee’ah was recognised for its successful approach to minimise waste, with a particular focus on the company’s in- house recycling facilities.
Salim Bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman, Bee’ah was also awarded the Visionary of the Year award for his contributions to raising awareness around environmental issues and influencing the community to make sustainable decisions.

Bee’ah was bestowed with these awards by a distinguished and independent panel of judges that included experts across academia and intergovernmental organisations including Dr. Mohamed Abouleish, Professor at the American University of Sharjah; Dr. Hosni Ghedira, Director of the Research Center for Renewable Energy Mapping and Assessment at the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology and Dr Richard J. O’B. Perry, Executive Director of Environmental Information, Science and Outreach at the Emirates Green Building Council.
“We are delighted to be recognised for the pioneering work we are currently undertaking in the field of waste management, and for the environment,” said Khaled Al Huraimel, Group Chief Executive Officer of Bee’ah.
“Today, Bee’ah diverts 60% of waste from landfill,” explained Al Huraimel. “What is notable is that we have increased this figure and have achieved this result in six short years, so I am confident that our vision of a cleaner, greener future will be realised.”

Inspired by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, to transform the Emirate into the most environmentally sustainable in the Middle East, Bee’ah aims to achieve a zero waste- to- landfill goal by 2015.

The awards were given out on the final day of Green Middle East. Bee’ah served as the host of the three day event, which provided a platform for international manufacturers of environment technology, government representatives, academics and industry experts.

Winners in other categories included Qatar Solar Technology for Best Alternative Energy Project of the Year; Environment Agency- Abu Dhabi for the Environment Awareness and Education and Beirut Arab University for Best Waste Water Management Company of the Year.

“We would like to congratulate the winners and hope they are successful in their future undertakings,” said Al Huraimel.

Now in its third edition, Green Middle East 2013 was organised by the IQPC. The event hosted over 80 exhibitors and was attended by more than 10,000 trade visitors.
