Financial Sector Comes Calling National Graduates Armed Forces Join Forces With National Career Exhibition
(16 February 2014)

The 16th National Career Exhibition, which is set to be held at Expo Centre Sharjah from February 19 to 21, 2014, will aim at empowering national graduates by opening up career opportunities in the country’s flourishing financial sector, Governments and private sectors as well.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the upcoming show assumes significance as more high-profile sponsors, including the UAE Armed Forces, are lending their support.

The highlights of the exhibition were announced at a press conference held at Expo Centre Sharjah on Sunday (February 16). It was addressed by Mr. Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, CEO of Expo Centre Sharjah, Mr. Tareq Bin Khadem, Chairman, Directorate of Human Resources, Government of Sharjah and Mr. Jamal Al Jasmi, General Manager of the Emirates Institute for Banking and Financial Studies, co-organizer of the exhibition.

“This is the first time the UAE Armed Forces has come forward to support the National Career Exhibition. Though the Armed Forces has been taking part in the show for quite some time, this year it assumes greater significance in the wake of the Cabinet decision to introduce mandatory military service for all Emirati men,” said Mr. Midfa.

The UAE Armed Forces, which is the Platinum Sponsor of the National Career Exhibition, will have one of the biggest stalls at the show, representing all its wings like the Army, Air Force, Air Defence, Navy and Presidential Guard.

“More importantly, the fair will help employers in the financial sector to increase their Emiratisation levels, which are set to increase tenfold over the next seven years, as mandated by the UAE National Agenda which was launched recently,” Mr. Midfa added.

Some of the leading lenders in the country such as Sharjah Islamic Bank, Commercial Bank of Dubai, National Bank of Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank are the Gold Sponsors, reflecting the importance they attach to the show. Besides, DU Telecom joined the show as strategic sponsor.

“Banks form the majority of around 100 exhibitors who have confirmed their participation in the show. Aiming to recruit, train and retain Emiratis as part of their Emiratisation programmes, almost all prominent local, regional and international banks will be offering hundreds of job and training opportunities to talented Emirati graduates,” Mr. Midfa said.

In line with their Emiratisation campaigns, most banks have announced plans to start in-house training programmes to train Emirati youth to take up jobs in responsible positions, while some employers have made changes to their work place flexibility to attract more nationals. Even part-time work schemes are also in place to attract the right talent.

“Most of the training programmes at these banks are conducted in coordination with Emirates Institute for Banking & Financial Studies, which has been spearheading the Emiratisation drive by imparting necessary training to UAE nationals to equip them with skills most sought after by employers,” Mr. Jasmi said.

“Besides, NCE is possibly the only show in the country that focuses solely on the financial sector, presenting employment opportunities in business development, accounting, finance and other sub-domains of the financial services industry in the UAE,” Mr. Jasmi added.

Apart from banks, the insurance sector too has greater participation this time, while leading firms from related industries like Petrofac, Etisalat and Du are also participating in the show.

Money exchanges, free zones and financial consultants will have their stalls at the show, while government bodies too will have an impressive presence. The Department of Human Resources, Public Works, Ajman Municipality and several other local and federal bodies have confirmed their participation.

Visitors can also take advantage of workshops, talks and discussion sessions held during the exhibition to review job and training related issues. The exhibition is open from 19th to 21st February at Expo Centre Sharjah. The timings are from 10am to 8pm on 19th & 20th February and 4pm to 8pm only on Friday, 21st February. Admission is strictly restricted to UAE Nationals only.
