Sharjah Museums Department (SMD) is hosting a range of programs specifically for families at several of its museums this August, spanning diverse subjects from history and heritage to the arts and culture.
SMD’s Family Summer Programs, which is a series of fun-filled activities, will run during the entire month of August at Sharjah Science Museum. All members of the family can enjoy participation in scientific competitions together, and take part in stimulating games, crafts and workshops. The museum will also present a special show at its planetarium, as well as a spectacular laser show.
Running parallel to the Family Summer Program will be a succession of Happy Holiday Camps. First in the series will be a training workshop called ‘Better Handwriting’ which will take place at the Sharjah Calligraphy Museum located at Heart of Sharjah. Especially designed for beginners in Arabic Calligraphy, participants will learn the beauty, craft and cultural significance of Arabic calligraphy over a course that runs from 3-28 August, every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, from 9.30am-12.30pm.
Sharjah Art Museum is also hosting its Happy Holiday Camp with a wide collection of entertaining and educational activities, including visits to some of the museums in Sharjah and enjoying their collections. The two-week camp offers children the opportunity to engage in creative workshops and to discover their artistic skills and will run from 10-21 August from 10 am - 1 pm.
For those who are interested in broadening their families’ horizons, the Happy Holiday Camp at Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilisation will be thoroughly interesting, educational and highly informative for all to enjoy. Entitled ‘Early Islamic Capitals, Damascus and Baghdad’, this camp includes guided museum tours, workshops, drawing, crafts and games, with a focus on the importance of Sharjah’s role in Islamic culture as a special highlighted feature. The workshops are taking place between 11-14 August from 10am-1pm.
For children interested in the mysterious and fascinating world of artefacts and discoveries, ‘The Junior Excavator’ workshop program is taking place at Sharjah Archaeology Museum, from 11-25 August from 9am – 1pm. Participants will immerse themselves in a range of engaging activities, and go on a journey of discovery about this region and its history that will bring to life the legacy of ancient generations.
