Sharjah Ruler names Fifth Square after Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed
(15 October 2014)

H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has ordered that the Fifth Square in the Emirate of Sharjah be named after His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the U.A.E. Armed Forces.

Located at the entrance of the Emirate of Sharjah, en route to the Emirate of Dubai on the extension of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road, the Fifth Square, one of the key roadways and largest areas in Sharjah, was designed to absorb a projected increase in traffic due to massive growth in urban, industrial, and economic sectors, as well as tourism.

The square has been built with three levels and is expected to be completed soon to become the largest, in terms of design, size, and traffic capacity. Officials expect that it will ease traffic congestion as it directs traffic towards other emirates.

The third level of the square features a 1.2 km long-18 metre high bridge, one of the tallest road projects in the country. Plans for the second level call for expansion of the existing bridge towards Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road to five lanes in each direction to carry 8,000 vehicles per hour and 200,000 vehicles per day.

Economically, note officials, the project will connect major commercial and industrial centres in the U.A.E., making them more attractive for investors.
