The 33rd edition of Sharjah International Book Fair, which drew more than 1,470,000 visitors from the UAE and abroad, and 450 media persons, came to a close, making it the most successful edition to date, according to the organisers.
The book fair held at the Sharjah Expo Center from November 5 to 15, witnessed the participation of 1256 publishing houses from 59 countries. On one day alone, November 11, nearly 46,000 students from 350 schools visited the fair.
"Not only has the fair been successful in terms of visitors but also in terms of sales with the total amount of sales reaching US$ 48.5 million from local and international governmental organizations," the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) said.
Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, Director of SIBF, commented: "Under the direction, patronage and support of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, this book fair has been the most successful one yet. This event will continue to be a platform for the exchange of literary thoughts and energy for people from all over the world. Next year will be even bigger, we are already planning for it."
