The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority participated once again in the 17th National Career Exhibition that took place at the Expo Centre Sharjah from February 11-13, in order to contribute to the empowerment of UAE Nationals and enhance their role in various sectors in the Emirate.
Speaking on the occasion, HE Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Director General, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, said the Authority is pleased to participate in the premier national career fair in the country as it helps in increasing the presence and role of national work force in the tourism sector. He drew attention to the fact that the ratio of Emirati nationals working in the Authority had already exceeded 70% in executive positions.
Al Midfa said the Authority has been constantly working to develop the skills and competencies of Emirati nationals, especially young graduates, and encourage them to join the travel, tourism and hospitality sectors in Sharjah.
Underscoring the need to raise awareness about the importance of the tourism and hospitality industry, the SCTDA Director General said that national work force in this field would help represent the true image and cultural identity of the emirate in front of visitors from around the world, introducing them to the customs, traditions, heritage and the special tourism product of Sharjah.
It is worth noting that the Authority has undertaken a host of special initiatives in the past few years to boost and develop the skills of nationals working in the travel, tourism and hospitality sectors. The SCTDA initiated a special year-and-half long Tourism Management Program for its Emirati staff in cooperation with the American University of Sharjah.
