Sharjah Health Authority (SHA) and Ministry of Health and Welfare, Republic of Korea, have signed a landmark cooperation agreement. This agreement will study and recommend Korean medical specialties including any successful pediatric oncology centers to collaborate with SHA. As per the agreement, the two entities will also introduce the best practices from Korean health insurance system into the SHA’s health insurance system.
The cooperation agreement signed in the presence of H.E. Moon Hyungpyo, the Minister of Health, South Korea and H.E Abdulla Ali Mahyan, Chairman, Sharjah Health Authority is an extension of the earlier Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two entities in February 2014 to strengthen cooperation in 13 healthcare areas that support the authority’s endeavors to ensure that its healthcare services are provided by the best and most advanced international experts.
Speaking on the occasion, HE Abdullah Al Mahyan, Chairman of Sharjah Health Authority, said: “The cooperation agreement further strengthens our commitment to providing excellent healthcare services in the region and in partner countries. The agreement with our partners, the South Korean Health Ministry aims to support the Authority’s experience in the fields of management, technology and training among many more areas. We expect this agreement will help upgrade our services in a bid to meet more criteria that will make Sharjah's healthcare offering at par with the international standards.
The SHA Chairman emphasized that in the earlier visits; the SHA and the Korean Ministry of Health have exchanged a number of views about the existing healthcare system in both countries and have agreed on mutual cooperation in several key areas. To this end, this agreement is aimed at strengthening relations and cementing several core partnerships. One of the main strategic objectives of SHA is always to partner with international counterparts to share the knowledge, best practices and human resource.
As part of this agreement and earlier agreement signed, both the parties will exchange healthcare delegations, training, as well as information and publications about public health and the related laws and regulations on a regular basis. Experts will be exchanged according to the priorities of the respective parties.
Conferences and forums will also be held and organised as part of the agreement to exchange notes on healthcare and direct cooperation between healthcare providers in each country. Access to healthcare services to citizens from each country will be facilitated and reciprocated.
The SHA implements its various healthcare projects in the light of its carefully researched strategy aimed at creating an excellent healthcare sector backed by the latest international experts in various healthcare areas, consistent with the unlimited support received from His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. The authority has already made significant strides in this direction, including the Sharjah Healthcare City, which is under formation, and is moving ahead to achieve the vision of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah.
