Sharjah Commerce And Tourism Development Authority Launches Mobile App To Enhance Tourist Experience In Emirate
(6 May 2015)

The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) has launched at the Arabian Travel Market 2015 its mobile applications for iOS and Android devices, enabling tourists to plan their trips to Sharjah conveniently using their smart phones.

Speaking on the occasion, HE Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Director General of SCTDA, said: “Technology has today made it possible to enhance the tourism experience through increased connectivity. Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority is keen to make use of the latest technological advances to facilitate a well-planned trip for visitors so that they can conveniently enjoy all the tourist destinations in Sharjah. We believe the launch of the new mobile applications will contribute further to establish Sharjah as a leading tourism destination.”

The app comes with a number of user-friendly options such as the ‘Make My Day’ feature that allows users to select desired places of visit based on various categories and schedule the visits using a map. Users can also choose one of the previously experienced plans based on their ratings.

Using the app, it is also possible to find the nearby places and events of interest with the distance shown in km. Visitors can also filter the places within a category using the filter symbol in each category.

The app allows users to login either using a new account or their Twitter or Facebook account, enabling them to comment, share and bookmark places or events. This way the app maintains all the information and preferences of the user even if the device is changed.

User guides for the app have been made available in both Arabic and English languages. The app also includes a dynamic image gallery.

Sharjah has emerged as a major tourist destination in the region, and has been awarded the title Arab Tourism Capital for 2015 by the Arab Tourism Organisation. Sharjah’s hospitality establishments received 2,036,014 guests in 2014, an increase of 3.4 per cent over the previous year. The emirate offers diverse tourism experience ranging from culture and heritage to nature, leisure, entertainment and shopping.
