Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), the Sharjah government body in charge of promoting the Emirate as the ultimate tourism and investment destination, today announced names of the winners of the first Shurooq Innovation Award.
Aimed at encouraging creativity and innovation amongst Shurooq’s staff, the Innovation Award was launched last year during the Authority’s annual gathering. A panel of judges from Shurooq has assessed all entries in the Award based on six criteria: originality of the idea, impact, practicality of application, measurability of benefits, development process and applicability.
The Award was presented to team B, comprised Hessah Sultan, Asia Al Harmoudi, Khawla Al Hashimi, Noorah Lootah, Jazia Al Dhanhani, Yousif Abdulrahman. The winning entry revolved around stimulating the employees’ minds by providing them with casual and recreational spaces, by turning the Shurooq’s headquarter building roof into a number of open and closed spaces, including a library and a pantry, using recycled and sustainable materials, such as used cargo containers.
Commenting on the Award, His Excellency Marwan Bin Jassim Al Sarkal, CEO of Shurooq, said: “The Innovation Award was launched to stimulate the creative minds of Shurooq’s employees and encourage them to think outside the box. We were very impressed with the volume of creative and innovative entries we received. Entries covered a wide array of topics and sectors; including clean energy, information and communication technologies, customer facilities and events.
“The winning idea entailed providing our staff with recreational and casual atmosphere that would allow them to unleash their creativity and imagination away from typical office settings. The Judging panel was particularly impressed with this entry’s level of details, taking into account our employees’ well-being and health, by focusing on physical activities, while offering an environment-friendly approach to utilising the space available on the roof.”
The innovation Award, which was launched in September last year and ended in April, saw the participation of 27 teams comprised over two hundred of Shurooq’s employees.
