Twenty-five centres across Sharjah have been allocated for counting data collected by the Sharjah Census 2015. The count phase of the census began on December 6, and covers all buildings, housing and residential areas in the emirate with the participation of 1300 staff, including observers, supervisors and researchers.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Thani, Chairman of the Higher Committee for the Sharjah Census 2015 and Chairman of the Department of Statistics and Community Development (DSCD), said the counting centres have been distributed across the emirate to ensure ease of access for researchers. 20 centres have been allocated to cover the city of Sharjah and Al Hamriya, 3 centers in the Eastern Region and 2 in the Central Region.
A supervisor has been appointed for each centre to streamline and supervise the work, distribute researchers and allocate a number of observers to assist in following up the field work and provide support and assistance to researchers.
Sheikh Mohammed Al Thani said, "Sharjah census teams will visit buildings and homes to collect information, and each researcher is expected to visit between 350 to 400 homes during the 20- day count phase which ends later this month. We have set up an action plan for researchers in order to assist them during this phase of the census."
Sheikh Mohammed Al Thani added that an operation room with a direct phone helpline has been set up to answer people's questions about the count conducted via personal interviews or through self-counting (iCensus) in order to offer advice and explain what information is needed and how to provide it.
The operation room is equipped with the latest technology and can receive calls from 8:00 am until 10:00 pm, and is run by trained and qualified staff who can answer calls regarding the census.
According to Sheikh Mohammed Al Thani the self-counting period will conclude on 15 December 2015, and those who have not registered electronically will be visited by researchers who will collect their information through personal interviews. Should the family not be at home, the researcher will revisit them at different times.
Everyone, especially those who are abroad during the census, can register online for self-counting or call 80080000 for help.
