As the tourism industry continues to drive the economic development of Sharjah, a number of school students recently made field trip to the Souq Al Jubail vegetable, fruit and fish market, the emirate's latest
tourism landmark that attracted over 138,000 visitors in its first two weeks of opening in December last year.
Inaugurated by H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, students from several schools in the emirate were taken on a tour of the market.
The children's tour guide for the visit was Director of Souq Al Jubail, Ali Hassan Al Suwaidi, who informed the students about how the 37,000 square metre, two-floor development was designed to cater to three distinct functions: selling fresh fish, vegetables and fruits, and fresh meat.
On the second leg of their tour, the students visited the outdoor section of the market where the fish is transported directly from boats to the retail shops. Al Suwaidi, said, "We are pleased to see student delegations visiting the market, a destination which has already become a landmark in Sharjah's economy. The Souk is more than just a beautiful tourist attraction, it is yet another example of how effortlessly Sharjah is developing both its tourism and business activities into one.
