Sharjah Light Festival 2016 Concludes With Impressive Turnout At 23 Shows Across The Emirate

Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, SCTDA, has concluded the Sharjah Light Festival 2016 at a ceremony organised in the University City Hall.

The event was attended by Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Chairman of SCTDA, Riad Abdullah Ahmad Abdullah Eilan, Director General of Sharjah Municipality, Dr. Rashad Salem, Vice Chancellor of Al Qasimia University, Mohammed Diab Al Mousa, Adviser at the Royal Court in Sharjah, Dr. Ali Obaid Al Zaabi, Director of the University of Sharjah, Khorfakkan Branch, Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer, Chief Operating Officer, Sharjah Investment and Development Authority, Shurooq, Sultan Mohammed Shattaf, Al Qasba Manager, Mohammed Fadhil Al Mazroui, Al Majaz Waterfront Manager, as well as representatives of sponsors of the event and local and regional media.

In his speech during the ceremony, Al Midfa attributed the success of Sharjah’s tourism industry to the guidance of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. "Sheikh Sultan has been a source of inspiration to all of us in our efforts to achieve the Sharjah Tourism Vision. The support of His Highness has been vital to enable us to activate various ideas to improve the tourism sector in our glittering Emirate of Sharjah."

Al Midfa said that in its expanded format this year across 23 shows around the emirate, Sharjah Light Festival gave more residents and visitors the opportunity to witness its shows. "We promise you that we will continue on this path of innovation in the coming years, offering you more unforgettable events and festivals that will capture your imagination," Al Midfa added.

Al Midfa said that the Sharjah Light Festival, organised for the sixth consecutive year, attracted more than 650,000 visitors during its 10 days from the country, the region and the world. The festival also created massive interest on SCTDA websites and social media accounts during the festival with the number of impressions reaching 2.8 million compared to 180,000 impressions last year, according to Google analytics.

Al Midfa is keen to highlight the cultural identity of Sharjah through this festival, especially with the new shows that have added cultural value to the festival and attracted large number of families.

In his address, Al Midfa also expressed thanks to all those who contributed to the success and development of the Sharjah Light Festival in its sixth year, especially the sponsors of the event, and all local, Arab and international media, who helped showcase the event to the world.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Al Midfa honoured government agencies, sponsors and artists as well as representatives of the local and regional media for their support and participation in the event.
