A Taste Of China At Al Majaz Waterfront

The Chinese festival kicked-off yesterday evening (Tuesday) at Al Majaz Waterfront, one of Sharjah’s leading destinations for family tourism, and will run till March 27. The festival features a range of fun-filled eventsthat will give visitors a chance to learn about Chinese arts and culture.

A huge number of visitors turned up on the first day of the festival that featured tens of exciting performances such as the dragon dance, lion dance, Kung Fu performance, the fan dance, a well-known Chinese ethnic dance, traditional costume show, along with other Chinese folk dance and music performances.

Visitors had the opportunity to enjoy and buy Chinese products such as food, clothes and accessories from Kiosks which were scattered along the Fountain Piazzas walkways. They were also able to buy gifts and souvenirs from the Chinese market. 

Al Majaz Waterfront management is also holding a competition on social media and the winner will have a chance to discover China, the prize includes airplane tickets and 4 days accommodation Contestants can check @AlMajazWF social media accounts to take part.

Mohammed Fadhil Al Mazroui, Manager of Al Majaz Waterfront, said, “Our festivals aim to cater to people of all ages and through such events we hope to increase the cultural knowledge of both the people of Sharjah and the UAE. The Chinese Festival is a gateway for people to learn more about China’s culture and tradition. Also, such festivals promote Sharjah as a premiere tourist and leisure destinationlocally.”

Al Mazroui added that he was happy about the large number of visitors  from various nationalities and ages who came to the festival on its first day. The festival became a large festive carnival which attracted people who love Chinese folklore, arts and food. He also considered the festival to be one part of the continuous series of the resounding success that Al Majaz Waterfront achieved.

Kids participated in interactive and fun-filled performances and activitiesthat took place between 5:00pm and 10:30pm. There were also two rounds of thedragon boat race - the first roundtook place from 8:00am-12:00 pm and the second one wasfrom 2:00-5:00 pm. The entry fee of all the performances and activities at the Festival is 10 AED.

The Dhs120m Al Majaz Waterfront, Shurooq’s debut project, was opened in March, 2012, and is situated in Sharjah’s most vital and commercial district on the picturesque Khalid Lagoon. As one of the premier tourist and leisure destinations in Sharjah, it plays host toall major events in the emirate.

Al Majaz Waterfront houses many world-class restaurants and cafes, including: T.G.I Friday’s, Caribou Coffee, Pizzaro, Zahr El- Laymoun, Tim Hortons café, Cold Stone, ElManza, a fine dining Moroccan restaurant and Shakespeare and Co. All of these overlook the breath-taking Sharjah Fountain. In addition, Al Majaz Waterfront offers a Splash Park, Mini Golf, Play Area and “ALWAN”, a unique activity centre exclusively designed for children to spend quality time with their parents or simply to have fun.
