Maraya Art Centre Presents An Evening Of Experimental Music And Sound Art With ’Tse Tse Fly Middle East
(27 March 2016)

In association with the Maraya Art Centre, TseTse Fly Middle East will curate an evening of sound art and experimental music on Al Noor Island, Sharjah. The evening event will feature a selection of curated sound art with visuals that will be projected onto a screen on the island, followed by individual live sound art performances from members of the TseTse Fly artist collective.

Formed in September 2015 and originating in Dubai, TseTse Fly Middle East is the region's first ever sound art and experiments-in-noise platform. The organisation aims to provide support for Middle Eastern sound artists and experimental musicians, and is focused on connecting and introducing regional sound art and noise artists to an international stage.  All TseTse Fly events are free to ensure accessibility to the public.

“Maraya Art Centre is pleased to be a part of such a unique event, and also an enthusiastic supporter of sound art and experimental music, excited to introduce this genre of creativity to the community” says Giuseppe Moscatello, Director of Maraya Art Centre of this event. “This category of music is quite niche, and we hope that the event will not only attract existing supporters, but also gain some new ones.”

Starting at 7pm, the evening presents a series of films selected by TseTse Fly,and feature experimental music, sound art recordings and performances from the Middle East region. This will then be followed with live performances every half hour until 10pm by Nour Sokhon, Ghada Da, Kumah and Karim Sultan.

Sokhon’s work meditates on the collision between the frequencies of nature and digital technology as she mixes live sounds with field recordings and digitally manipulated sounds; Da’s incantatory performances are an extension of her practise wherein she examines identity, the self and the sacred body; while Kumah Sultan builds layer upon layer of hypnotic and transcendent sound washes, whilst Karim Sultan creates experimental electronica-based sound art that is imbued with Arab and regional influences.

Schedule for Friday April 1, 2016:

7 - 8PM             Middle Eastern sound art on the screen

8 - 8.30PM        Nour Sokhon

8.30 – 9PM       Ghada Da
