SCTDA Organises China Tourism Forum To Attract More Tourists To Sharjah From Chinese Market
(18 April 2016)

Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority organised a China Tourism Forum for destination marketing companies based in the UAE to promote Sharjah as a platform to attract more tourists from the Chinese market. The Forum provided an opportunity for Sharjah to showcase its latest tourism products with presentations from Shurooq, Sharjah Museums Department and Sharjah’s Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA).

Sharjah has unveiled a number of new tourism offerings in recent times, including Al Noor Island in Sharjah’s Khalid Lagoon. The AED 80 million (US$22 million) facility has emerged as a major family tourism destination since its opening in December 2015. Sharjah has also made rapid strides in the family and eco-tourism sector with initiatives such as the 25,000 hectare Mleiha project, the Wasit Nature Reserve and the Al Hefaiyah Mountain Conservation Centre.

SCTDA has stated that a number of new investments are coming on line throughout 2016. The Authority said it will organise more industry driven events to keep destination marketing companies updated with the latest developments and offerings.

“China is a major source market for Sharjah’s tourism sector, and SCTDA is looking to tap into the potential of this market to achieve sustained growth in the coming years. Sharjah offers for visitors from China diverse attractions ranging from culture and heritage to nature, entertainment and shopping. The emirate recorded an impressive growth of 126% in the number of tourists from China in 2014, and achieved a further growth of 45% in 2015, reflecting its status as a favoured tourist destination for Chinese tourists,” said His Excellency Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Chairman of SCTDA.

The China Tourism Forum witnessed some deals between the destination marketing companies and entities in the hospitality sector. A tour was also organised on the occasion for the Forum participants to Heart of Sharjah, the emirate’s leading heritage location.

The participants in the Forum included Wings Tour Gulf, Golden Compass Tourism, Dirham Tours, Makkah Tourism, Saadiyat Way Tourism, Parwaz Luxury Tourism, Good Scenery Tourism, Royal Arabian Tours, Hunter International Travel & Tourism, Utopya Tourism, Incentives & Conferences by Royal Arabian, Highway Travel Tourism, Green Crystal Tourism, and Nirvana Tours.
