Flemming Dalgaard, CEO International Operations at Gulftainer, received the award from Paul Holloway, Event Director at TOC Middle East, at the award ceremony held in Dubai.

Gulftainer was among six other finalists from the region and was chosen for the laurel that recognises a company or port authority that has maintained the highest standards of operational efficiency and customer service throughout the year.

Factors considered by the expert panel of judges were quality, tangible examples of innovation, improved efficiency, profitability and successful investment in port operations. Highly regarded in the shipping industry, the award also took into consideration evidence of sustained commitment to customer service, cost and operational efficiency, and an outstanding safety and environmental record.

The Lloyd’s List Awards series recognises the industry’s successes, setting a benchmark for excellence while rewarding innovative ideas and concepts that have pushed the boundaries of what is possible. In its citation, Lloyd’s List observed: “While operating in a difficult business environment Gulftainer showed competitiveness in winning business in difficult and different locations.”

Flemming Dalgaard of Gulftainer, said: “The Port Operator Award from Lloyd’s List is a prestigious citation that underlines our tangible track-record in delivering quality across all aspects of our operation and our commitment to upholding impeccable service and safety standards. The honour crowns the efforts of Gulftainer during 2015, and the past years, to ensure the highest levels of operational efficiency. We have been investing in building our infrastructure and expanding our footprint globally, and the recognition demonstrates to our clients that we deliver industry-best service.”

Gulftainer’s current portfolio covers UAE operations in Khorfakkan Port and Port Khalid in Sharjah; terminals in Iraq; and activities at Recife in Brazil, Tripoli in Lebanon, along with Jeddah and Jubail in Saudi Arabia.

The company marked a significant milestone in 2014 with its expansion to the US by signing a long-term agreement to operate the container and multi-cargo terminal at Port Canaveral in Florida. The terminal was officially opened in June 2015.

Gulftainer aims to expand its global portfolio to reach 35 terminals across five continents, to triple business volume worldwide, with more than 10,000 vessel calls, and also triple container handling to 18 million TEUs.
