Sharjah will host the second Global Non-Communicable Diseases, NCDs, Alliance Forum from 9th to 11th December 2017, which will bring together over 300 prominent figures, including health specialists, international non-governmental organisations, and select government representatives, as well as NCD organisations and societies from all over the world.
The three-day forum will be held under the directives and patronage of H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of H.H. the Ruler of Sharjah, Founder and Royal Patron of the Friends of Cancer Patients, FoCP, International Ambassador for the World Cancer Declaration of the Union for International Cancer Control, UICC, International Ambassador for Childhood Cancer for UICC and Patron of Global NCD Alliance Forum.
The dates for the forum were announced by Ameera BinKaram, President of the Board of Trustees and founding member of Friends of Cancer Patients,FoCP, at a dinner hosted on eve of the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly, by the NCD Alliance in New York, under the patronage of Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi.
Majid Al Suwaidi, UAE's Consul General to New York, Dr. Jose Luis Castro, Chair of NCDA Group, Johanna Ralston, CEO World Heart Federation and Vice-Chair of NCD Alliance, Martin Bernhardt, Vice President of Relations with International Institutions, Sanofi and co-chair of NCD Alliance Supporters Consultation Group, Dr. Cary Adams, CEO of the UICC, Sir George Alleyne, Director Emeritus PAHO, and a large gathering of officials and representatives of leading health organisations in the US and other countries attended the banquet.
BinKaram laid great emphasis on the continued support and patronage of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah and H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, and how it is part of Sharjah’s and the UAE’s goals to mobilise and unite international efforts in the global fight against non-communicable diseases, overturning their negative impact on human societies worldwide.
Johanna Ralston expressing her thanks and appreciation to Sheikha Jawaher, and issued her directives to host the 2017 Global NCD Alliance Forum in Sharjah. She also thanked FoCP for its eagerness to forge global partnerships with all NCD organisations.
The participants also discussed ways to activate the ‘Sharjah Declaration on Non-Communicable Diseases towards 2030’, which was announced during the closing of the 2015 Global NCD Alliance Forum. They also highlighted the importance of expanding partnerships in preparation for the 2018 UN High Level Review on NCDs, whose main agenda will be to have the declaration among its top priorities in its quest towards realising sustainable development and preserving the health and safety of world's peoples.
Dr. Jose Luis Castro expressed NCD Alliance’s appreciation and gratitude for Sharjah as they host the second Global NCD Alliance Forum in 2017. Castro paid tribute to H.H. Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi for her efforts in supporting initiatives that aim to combat cancer and non-communicable diseases in the UAE, the wider region and the entire world.
