Sharjah Government Opens New Digital Frontiers During GITEX Technology Week 2016

New e-services, portals, applications and games all set to be launched by 35 Sharjah-based government entities and authorities


 

New e-government services introduced to visitors during the 5-day GITEX Technology Week 2016 will highlight Sharjah Government’s role in easing and facilitating customer-based services and procedures faster, with an easy-access information digital framework enabling premium convenience to Sharjah citizens, business owners as well as tourists.

New smart-phone / tablet applications, new games and new interactive portals are among the additional exhibitions set to be launched by 35 Sharjah-based government entities and authorities, exclusively during the region’s largest technology trade fair, which is kick-starting from today (Sunday) until October 20th at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

The Sharjah Government stand, which is fully managed and powered by Sharjah Department of eGovernment (DeG), is set to bring the latest of innovations to visitors, reflecting on its clear strategy for Sharjah’s digital movement and transformation.

"The first day of GITEX will be key for us to meet and greet with the industry’s biggest names and prominent specialists, as well as enable them exclusive access to the latest technologies and digital solutions prepared by our government partners exhibiting under the Sharjah Government pavilion. Our pavilion design concept and size, which is one of the biggest exhibiting pavilions during the entire event, as well as the new launches prepared by ourselves and other government authorities will truly be one of the event’s biggest attractions,” said H.E. Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Director General of Sharjah Department of eGovernment (DeG).

Sheikh Khalid Al Qasimi added: “This year DeG will launch its long-awaited new game, which is already creating a lot of buzz and fan-base thanks to its unique infrastructure and interactivity concept. We’re going to enable visitors access to the game through multiple forms, creating a unique set of engagement experiences reflecting on the limitless opportunities Sharjah has on being digitally innovative and creative. The new Sharjah Government stand design, inspired by Al Noor Island, will be a key attraction to visitors as this year, we decided to go into a more environmentally responsible direction, integrating this with our digital sustainability initiatives.”

Speaking on what’s new in technology for Sharjah’s travel and tourism industry, H.E. Khalid Jassim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), said, "During this year’s GITEX, the SCTDA will officially reveal its latest “Sharjah Application”, which is a fully-integrated and interactive platform enabling users to explore Sharjah’s most iconic landmarks, tourism hotspots and key destinations. This application, which will also be exhibited through a VR experience, will be part of our global initiative to communicate Sharjah as a unique and family-friendly destination with the most comprehensive and engaging forms.”

Al Midfa added: “We have set-up the latest digital touch-screen applications enabling the visitors a joyful experience learning about Sharjah, and a VR section bringing Sharjah closer to them than ever.”

Al Midfa highlighted: “In travel and tourism, information is always key. Especially for tourists traveling to Sharjah, our participation in the world's third largest technology trade fair stems from our continuous mission to provide them and users from all over the world top-tier e-services enabling them the most easy-access platforms which helps cater to their needs."

Building on Sharjah’s tourism diversification growth and the unique investment opportunities which stems from this strategy, Ahmed Obeid Al Qaseer, COO of the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), said: “Shurooq is all set to engage with visitors and prominent business executives on Sharjah’s growing economic diversification strategy, focusing on its growing cultural and authentic tourism sector.”

Al Qaseer added: “Our focus this year will include the most interactive platforms and technologies to engage audiences on tourism projects developed by Shurooq such as the Heart of Sharjah, Al Noor Island, Al Qasba and the Mleiha Archaeological and Eco-tourism project. These four destinations have projected promising opportunities to combine both authentic tourism experiences with the most advanced technologies making these destinations some of the most iconic and remarkable landmarks in Sharjah.”

Al Qaseer explained: “The destinations we are exhibiting this year highlights our dedicated efforts to develop and preserve fundamental cultural constructs which provide authentic experiences to tourists and visitors, combined with the most up-to-date technologies and advanced facilities which equally creates interactivity and convenience. Exhibiting under the Sharjah Government pavilion during the GITEX Technology Week, reflects our efforts to showcase our unique destinations and our unique mix of technology and culture, and to showcase the diverse set of investment opportunities to our diversified tourism development portfolio.”

For H.E. Abdulaziz Ahmad Shams AlShamsi, Director General of the Real Estate Registration Department, GITEX Technology Week is a key opportunity to reflect on how the department pursues digital innovation especially catering to the growing real-estate sector in Sharjah. He explained: “We will launch a series of smart services for the Sharjah Real Estate Registration Department which will contain many enable a new way of electronic real estate services making transactions and processes easier and dynamic.”

Marwa Ali Al Suwaidi, Head of the Smart Services Department at Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA), said, "Part of its dedicated to support to Sharjah’s digital and environmental sustainability, SEWA will launch a new campaign promoting its “Green Bill” initiative and will work with visitors who live in Sharjah in updating their profiles to activate their own Green Bills.”

Al Suwaidi added: “SEWA will also highlight its effective dedication to becoming a “paper-free” government authority, launching an “Online Gas Connection” request platform as well as an “Online Stop Service” request platform. Both will make it easier for users to make their requests faster and through a paperless process. In addition to that, we will further launch and showcase our new SEWA App Version 3.0 which offers a new form of interactivity between users and the authority.”

Mona Abdul Karim Al Yafei, Director of the Sharjah City for Human Services (SCHC), said: "Our participation this year, which marks its third, will lead the Sharjah Government pavilion’s dedication to shed light on integrating technologies with education for the special needs. Our exhibiting space will feature a miniature classroom highlighting and sharing our vision for e-learning technologies for the special needs, similar to what we provide at Al Amal School for the Deaf.”
