Starting tomorrow (Thursday) visitors of Al Majaz Waterfront’s Winter Festival will be able to enjoy more than its unique installations designed to create a special seasonal atmosphere. Sharjah’s popular leisure and tourist destination has laid on an array of mascots, street performers and stilt walkers throughout the three weeks of the event, with the entertainers brought in to enhance the festive experience for young and old alike.
Included among the activities taking place during the three-week long Winter Festival is a fun parade comprising colourful performers who will be providing walkabout entertainment, with drummers, a saxophonist, jugglers, fairy-tale characters and dancers all interacting with guests. Bringing nature to life are two ‘Fantastic Flower’ stilt walkers, who form living and moving floral sculptures, while a ‘Fantastic Tree’ is the perfect story-teller for children. Two ‘Elves’ will be on hand to provide fun interactive experiences for younger ones - including an eight-metre long tunnel, a pit filled with 200 colourful balls and a dance competition - while giant friendly mascots will wander around dispensing cuddles to those who want them.
Children will also have fun with two interactive shows, the Bubble Show and the Electro Show, the first creating beautiful floating translucent spheres, the second revealing the wonderful properties of electricity through a series of experiments.
“Al Majaz Waterfront is delighted to launch its Winter Festival, which features numerous installations designed to imbue a feeling of wintry wonder for all visitors. These include an outdoor ice skating ring – the first one in Sharjah – a snow-tube ride, an inflatable maze and artificial snowfalls several times a day. Adding to this are street performers who will be traversing the walkways and generating even more fun as part of the proceedings,” said Mohammed Fadhil Al Mazroui, Manager of Al Majaz Waterfront.
A pair of mime artists will keep the guests entertained with their silent comedy along Al Majaz Waterfront’s walkways and also with their skating routines on at the ice rink, while those who like a noisier form of entertainment will enjoy the fast-paced drumming performance at the Stomp Show, whose band members use everyday objects as instruments to fire up the emotions. And speaking of fire, a show of flame manipulation will be performed throughout the Winter Festival by the ‘Wild Fire Conquerors.’ The duo’s routine involves fire and pyrotechnics to create a stunning visual spectacle.
Visitors to Al Majaz Waterfront during the Winter Festival, which runs from December 15 until January 7, will enter a snowy landscape, with its sense of wonder lit up by special illuminations that enhance the magical winter’s evening ambience. The festive atmosphere will be enlivened by a DJ playing seasonal tunes to add to the unique atmosphere.
