Sharjah Bridal Fair Shares Useful Tips On How To Manage Pre- Wedding Stress
(7 May 2017)

An interactive session on pre-wedding stress management was held yesterday on the side-lines of the second edition of the Sharjah Bridal Fair (SBF 2017) at Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre (JRCC), in collaboration with the Family Development Centres, to provide brides-to-be with the most important tips that help them destress and relax before the big day.

Participating in the discussion were newlyweds, Hessa Al Jasmi and Mouza Al Matroushi, Psychological Consultant Hind Al Badwawi, and Shahd Al Jumaily, Managing Director of the Architales, an event management company specialised in weddings. It was moderated by Wafa Taymour.

During the session, newlywed Hessa Al Jasmi talked about the major stresses she went through right before her wedding. She noted that most of it came from the numerous persistent questions from family about preparation details and more. Assistance from a close friend came to her rescue, something that helped her greatly to sort things out quickly without excess intervention.

Speaking about her pre-wedding experience, Mouza Al Matroushi said: “I experienced an increased sense of stress shortly before my wedding because I was overwhelmed by precise details of organisation along with other wedding-related matters, which I was handling on my own to ensure that everything goes as planned.”

She advised brides-to-be to seek assistance from others and not to make the wedding details a major concern, instead enjoy every moment leading up to the big day.

Psychological Consultant Hind Al Badwawi, observed: “High expectations are at the core of most problems experienced by brides- and grooms-to-be, apart from stress. This is because they draw up future scenarios of a perfect life free of problems. They also believe that the wedding party must satisfy and appeal to all, and this part is hard to achieve because people’s tastes are different. Such misconceptions add pressure on the newly married couples, and slide them into nonstop problems, even before starting a family.”

She underlined the importance of stop comparing oneself to others, and seeking help from elders in the family about essential matters, as their wisdom and experience comes in handy, particularly in following customs and traditions while preparing for the wedding. “This will help you create a balance between other people’s opinions and your wishes, while taking into account the financial conditions of the groom,” Al Badwawi said.

Bringing in her expertise on wedding etiquette and reception seating plans, Shahd Al Jumaili remarked: “We always try to provide assistance and advice to newlyweds, and inform them about the importance of organised thoughts and demands. We advise them to have a clear action plan to help minimise anxiety and tension. It also helps us greatly to be able to do our job properly, in terms of choosing the wedding venue, proper seating plan for guests and the wedding stage, as well as a lot of other details that the bride wants to add for her big day.”
