Sharjah Tourism headed straight to Moscow from Berlin to continue building on its success. The Authority heads a delegation which includes representatives from Sharjah International Airport Authority, Air Arabia, Sata, Al Khalidiah Travels, Ramada Hotel, Radisson Blu, Sharjah Beach Hotel, Royal Tulip Act, Sheraton Resort, Red Castle Hotel and Cozmo Travel.
The delegation are continuing to forge ahead with their promotion of the tourism industry through presenting the emirate as a perfect family holiday destination offering unparalleled culture and heritage along with unique outdoor tourism opportunities.
During 2016, Sharjah welcomed a 12% increase in guests from Russia and CIS countries against global growth of 4.3%. The outbound market from Russia had decreased globally over the previous years and it is an extremely positive sign that there was such a significant increase in 2016 to Sharjah. The Authority is working strategically to build on this increase throughout 2017 and the participation in MITT is just one part of this plan. Other significant developments include the opening of a new PR office in January based in Moscow. The representative office is responsible for driving up visitor numbers to Sharjah, developing new trade partnerships and opening up Russian marketing channels. They are already active and their work was reflected in the successful number of working meetings held in Russia.
H.E Khalid Jasmin Al Midfa said “This year MITT has been the most successful yet, with the top 5 outbound operators wanting to meet and make strategic partnerships on the Sharjah stand it has definitely been one of the most fulfilling shows yet. We often hold meetings and the outcomes follow later but at this show they really wanted to solidify future planning there. We are especially confident of exceptional growth from this market this year”
The Authority has been working closely with the travel industry across Russia and the wider CIS through 2015 and this is certainly showing benefits and the strong investment in this market will continue with focus throughout 2017 involving many other participations over the coming year with outbound operators, roadshows as well as key exhibitions which include, active participation by Sharjah at MITT in Moscow and KITF in Almaty, Kazakhstan. These, along with the mega fams that have been hosted in Sharjah recently can definitely be seen as the major reason for the noticeable increment in the tourist arrivals.
Commenting on SCTDA participation HE Khalid Jasim Al Midfa stressed the importance of strengthening Sharjah’s presence in the Russian market which is one of the foremost tourist markets for Sharjah. He also stated that “As Sharjah occupies a prominent place in the Russian market for its diversified product, unparalleled culture and heritage, award winning museums and cultural centres on one hand and its excellent tourist and recreational facilities on the other, along with a series of beach front resort hotels offering a variety of sporting and family activities. This market is also attracted by the tax free shopping available in Sharjah’s many malls and souks.”
Moscow International Trade and Tourism is Russia’s leading and largest travel exhibition and one of the five largest exhibitions specializing in International Travel. With over 3,000 participating companies and 197 destinations, it is the key meeting place for the industry and an opportunity to network with colleagues and clients. Participants are able to increase awareness of their destination, gain a true impression of the Russian travel market and gauge demand for their services. 2017 marks MITT’s 24th anniversary. Held since 1994, the event has become the main industry forum for travel professionals.
