Sharjah Museums Department Participates In ’Let’s Save For A Noble Goal’ Campaign
(24 September 2009)

Sharjah Museums Department (SMD) has announced its participation in the ‘Let’s Save for a Noble Goal’ campaign launched by Nahtam Social Responsibility in collaboration with the Swiss and Austrian embassies. SMD’s participation comes in line with its new initiative ‘Because We Care’ that highlights the role of museums as vehicles for social change and their responsibility to the communities they serve.

As part of the campaign, a saving box in the shape of a football named ’Hadaaf,’ to embody care and responsibility, is being distributed among children to motivate them to save money and care for others.

Manal Ataya, Director General, Sharjah Museums Department (SMD), said: “We are committed to working towards societal welfare, and extend the support of various museums under SMD for supporting charitable causes. ‘Let’s Save for a Noble Goal’ not only instills in children the need to save but also supports children’s charities.”

The ‘Hadaaf’ team and SMD provided the saving boxes to a number of museums including Sharjah Aquarium, Sharjah Science Museum and Sharjah Discovery Centre for distribution among children and their families to develop the saving habit. The ‘Hadaaf’ team also distributed the saving boxes among children across shopping malls, clubs, department stores, and charity organizations.

Through collection points, funds will be collected across the UAE and the cumulative savings will be announced. In Sharjah, the savings will be donated to the Emirates Association of the Blind to improve the level of educational and vocational qualifications of blind people and those who work with them.

The Sharjah Museums Department, established in 2006 by His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, aims to promote the emirate’s rich legacy of arts, heritage and culture.
