Sharjah Begins Preparations For third Reading Festival
(28 December 2009)

The General Department of Children and Girls’ Centers has already started preparations for Sharjah third reading festival, which will be launched on February 2010 under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawahir Bint Mohammed Al Qassimi, President of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, who expects the festival to meet all the expectations.

Sharjah third reading festival seeks to create a society full of readers and intellectuals, educate families to play a constructive role in motivating and encouraging children to read, and consolidate its role in shaping their personalities, refine their behavior and enhance their self-confidence. The festival features different variety of activities, competitions and lectures that will help develop the reading habit among children.

Ehssan Al Sowaidi, head of the organizing committee of the event, emphasized on the festival role to revive the reading culture through carefully planned events that is directed to the children of various ages.

Sheikh said the festival comes at a time dominated by the entertainment, electronic games and the space channels, which led to the decline of the children reading performance.

"We will not be satisfied that the festival will be a duplicate of it’s first two sessions despite their success. What we achieved in the past was a motivation to present the best, and that’s what will the festival visitors will notice through the innovations which occurred on the previous organized events, like the book fair, and that we have tried in this session to increase the number of participants from the publishing houses and government and private organizations. A line-up of new events will add a new dimension to the festival and support its cultural and educational role" Al Sowaidi said.
