Al Qasba—the premiere tourist, cultural and entertainment destination in the emirate of Sharjah—recently welcomed Mr. Jussi Pylkkanen, President of Christie’s Europe and Middle East, to Sharjah during a visit to Al Qasba’s Maraya Art Centre on April 26th. Mr. Pylkkanen’s tour of the gallery included viewing the latest collection of pieces sponsored by the Barjeel Art Foundation, for which he was accompanied by Mr. Sultan Sooud al Qassemi, the Founder of the Barjeel Art Foundation and Mr. Hazem Sawaf, Director of Sales and Marketing at Al Qasba Development Authority.

The Barjeel Art Foundation plays a vital role in nourishing the burgeoning art community in the UAE by providing a space where artwork drawn from diverse corners of the Arab world can come together in an interactive and communal setting. The three-story Maraya Art Centre, which houses a permanent collection of pieces from the Barjeel Art Foundation, was built as a stage for creative experimentation and a testament to the region’s extraordinary artistic genius. In addition to rotating exhibitions, visitors are welcome to attend lectures led by featured artists, enrol in specialized workshops for students and adults, and enjoy daily tours of the centre’s three main halls: The Shelter, The House of Arab Art, The Contemporary Art Gallery.
