Ruwad Launches Creativity And Leadership Business Centres At University Of Sharjah
(24 May 2010)

Al Midfa: 1st UAE initiative to enable students to practically develop ideas & skills, in line with Ruler’s vision to support and develop Emirati youth

Ruwad Establishment announced the launch of the Creativity and Leadership Business Centres at the University of Sharjah during a recent visit to an exhibition put on by the Alumni of the University’s College of Fine Arts and Design.

The Centres are the first initiative of Ruwad’s Business Incubator programme, which aims to transform the creative ideas of university students into investment projects supported and financed by Ruwad, and are intended to support the projects and ideas of students at the College of Fine Arts and Design.

Speaking of the launch, Ruwad Chairman H.E. Ahmed Al Midfa said that Ruwad’s Business Incubator programme is the first initiative of its kind in the UAE, enabling students to develop their ideas and skills on a practical level while remaining faithful to H.H the Ruler of Sharjah’s vision to support the Emirati youth and develop their skills through an integral business system managed by educational establishments and other business organisations.

The establishing of the Creativity and Leadership Business Centres is in line with Ruwad’s stated aim of supporting independent business; establishing small projects based on the creativity and skills of the students at the College of Fine Arts and Design; using these skills as investments that will contribute to Sharjah’s economic growth; recognising potential business leaders and helping them develop their business based on sound scientific standards; investing in the academic environment to create a generation of business leaders who are both academically and scientifically well informed; and encouraging sound planning and feasibility studies when developing projects, thus giving academic value to these projects.

The Business Incubator programme also provides a communication link between the academic environment and the UAE business market, and aims – through projects joining the Incubator – to encourage teamwork.

Al Midfa added that the idea of a collegiate Business Incubator such as the Creativity and Leadership Business Centres that would enable students to obtain trade licenses or headquarters for their own companies at their universities for a period of two years, with support from Ruwad, has attracted interest in the private sector, as seven graduates from the Sharjah Institution of Technology (SIT) are already seeking membership of the Incubator. Ruwad has thus decided to establish another Business Incubator at SIT, providing monetary and technical support to students seeking to establish their own businesses.
