Sharjah Museums Department Launches Summer Camp 2010 At Sharjah Discovery Centre

Under the slogan “Together towards a Better Tomorrow”, Sharjah Museums Department (SMD) has launched the Summer Camp 2010 at Sharjah Discovery Centre. The activities include workshops to be held every Sunday, Monday and Tuesday from 9 to 12:30pm for children aged 7-12 years.

The camp, which will last till July 13, is in line with SMD’s commitment to encourage children to use spare time creatively and positively, and acquire new skills in a fun-learning atmosphere.

Titled “Fun with creativity”, of the activities from June 27 to 29 will include workshops on how to make a lamp in an innovative way for girls aged 10-12 years, and the art of photography, in collaboration with the Emirates Photography Society, for boys and girls aged 7-12 years. The first workshop will conclude with an open day for boys and girls on sports, mathematical, scientific, and cultural activities.

The camp from July 4 to 6, titled ‘Secrets and Wonders of Pharaonic Civilization,’ will include workshops on Pharaonic fashion, how to make paper and hieroglyphic writing, how to make a vase from clay with Pharaonic designs, and how to make perfume as an art known in the Pharaonic civilization. The camp is for children aged 7 -12 years.

From July 11 to 13, the camp will be held on the topic ‘Your health under the microscope.’ It will include workshops on how to design a magazine containing useful information on health, healthy food, and a workshop on how to design a painting of healthy food, fruits, and how to make a beautiful hat from vegetables and fruits.

The last day will feature a special programme in cooperation with Sharjah Project for Healthy Mouth and Teeth, a competition that promotes cleanliness among participants, and making a poster on cleanliness. Sharjah Discovery Centre will hand out certificates to all participants.

In collaboration with the Sharjah Police General Directorate, Sharjah Discovery Centre also organized a workshop, "Junior Policeman", on the means used in crime detection in a fun and enjoyable way. The workshop also included how to build a village with traffic signals.

Sharjah Discovery Centre is an interactive facility, designed for young children where they can discover and learn through play, explore the world around them, and understand that science and technology are part of their daily lives.
