Sahara Centre Opens Its Doors For Morning Walks
(26 December 2010)

Supports Sharjah Ministry of Health’s ’Walk for your health’ initiative

Sahara Centre – the leading family shopping and entertainment destination in the UAE and one of Sharjah’s prominent landmarks – has joined hands with Sharjah Ministry of Health to promote healthy living habits among the residents of UAE. As part of the initiative, the mall will now open its doors for morning walkers’ everyday between 8 am and 9:30 am. From 10 am, regular mall operations and business will get under way.

Commenting on the initiative, Akram Ammar, General Manager of Sahara Centre, said, “Amidst today’s busy lifestyle, it is difficult for anyone to find time for oneself. We often look for reasons to not exercise, and in the UAE, climate is one obvious and common scapegoat. Basic exercise such as Walking can work wonders for our health.
As a mall, we are thrilled with this opportunity to support the Ministry of Health’s initiative. If we can even bring about a lifestyle change among few people by opening our doors to the public, we would consider our efforts a great success.”

Walking has numerous health benefits - it prevents diabetes, increases the body’s metabolism, cures hypertension, stimulates blood pressure, prevents heart ailments, supports weight loss, supports healthy pregnancy and a lot more.

He added: “The timing of the initiative by the Ministry could not have been perfect. With the New Year just around the corner, a lot of people would be tempted to make New Year’s Resolutions. By enabling people with an extra place to go for morning walk, we are able to do our bit for the society.”

The initiative by the Sharjah Ministry of Health is aimed at influencing behavioral change of the residents to adopt simple and easy forms of exercise, which will eventually lead to a healthy body and a healthy mind.
