Sharjah Cooperative Society Donates Dhs200,000 To Friends Of Cancer Patients
(27 July 2011)

In response to its recent Zakat campaign in aid of cancer sufferers, the Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP) has, for the second consecutive year, received significant financial support from the Sharjah Cooperative Society.

During a recent event at the Society’s offices, Walid bin Falah Al Mansouri, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Cooperative Society, handed over a cheque to the value of Dhs200,000 to Dr. Sawsan Al Madhi, Secretary General of the FOCP. With a number of officials from both bodies present, they also discussed various issues of mutual concern and avenues of future cooperation.

Speaking of the occasion, Ameera Bin Karam, FOCP President and Founding Member said: "I feel an extreme sense of pride when I witness the various humanitarian and charity programs implemented by the UAE to help alleviate the suffering of the needy and underprivileged. Helping those living under tough circumstances is very rewarding and I am extremely proud of this country’s contributions, for which it deserves the highest status and respect.

“Humanitarian responsibility is a quality deeply rooted in the UAE’s history and culture, and it forms part of Emirati citizens’ distinguished national identity. Charitable programs are implemented within the framework of the humanitarian responsibilities undertaken by the country to alleviate human suffering wherever it takes place," she added.

Bin Karam praised the Sharjah Cooperative Society for supporting the FOCP in offering treatment to cancer patients, as well as for supporting humanitarian projects in the country.

The FOCP recently launched its Zakat fund-raising campaign under the theme "Your Zakat…Their Treatment", which enables individual philanthropists and organizations to contribute their Zakat funds towards helping underprivileged cancer patients.

The campaign aims to collect donations from Zakat funds to treat cancer patients who cannot afford the high cost of treatment, as well as to support patients until they are able to resume normal life after receiving treatment.
